Hi there, and welcome to my blog! I’m Akhila, and I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. I am passionate about using law as a tool for social change; in the long run, I hope to be armed with a JD and work on criminal justice reform across the globe. I currently work in D.C. for a civil rights law firm which uses litigation to advocate for the rights of immigrants, refugees, prisoners, the indigent, and racial minorities. You can read more about my background here.

I believe I have been incredibly lucky to have had so many opportunities in my life - to go to a great private school, intern and volunteer with non-profits, study abroad, travel and broaden my horizons, and study what I loved. I also know that because of my privilege, I have an obligation to give back and work to right some of the injustices present in this world. And while I hope to be a change agent myself, I also want to play a role in encouraging other young and talented members of my generation to join the movement for social change and social justice.

Personally I love writing and blogging of all sorts, traveling across the globe, burying myself in books, writing poetry, and keeping up with art and fashion. I love big cities and am struck with wanderlust every few months. I’m definitely a huge nerd, but I’ll talk to you about almost anything (except sports…). Oh and I’m addicted to social media, the internet, coffee, and chocolate.
