Projects

I currently lead End Cyber Abuse, a collective of gender and human rights activists, lawyers, researchers, and advocates keen to bring light to the experiences of victims and survivors of image-based sexual abuse. My role included:

  • Designing and launching our first website and leading a team in launching a social media campaign to raise awareness of cyber abuse
  • Leading a team of lawyers and researchers, and working with law firms, in preparing a series of factsheets documenting legal remedies for survivors of image-based sexual abuse across 10 countries
  • International advocacy, including a submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women

Here is a selection of past projects and consultancies:

  • For the Justice for All Organization (Afghanistan): Prepared proposals, submissions, and LOIs for major funders including Open Society Foundations, National Endowment for Democracy, UN Women, Bayat Foundation, U.S. Institute of Peace, Australian Embassy Afghanistan, U.S. Embassy Afghanistan, KIOS, INL, and Mama Cash, raising over $600,000 for the legal services non-profit and allowing the organization to expand and open legal aid centers and hold legal awareness programs in Kabul, Badakhshan, Kundoz, Takhar, Ghazni, Bamiyan, and Khost provinces.
  • For Open Society Foundations: Conducted evidence-based policy advocacy to expand access to justice and legal identity, and to reduce discrimination against marginalized groups such as women and members of Dalit castes. Prepared policy papers, reports, and briefs on legal aid, citizenship rights and women’s access to justice in Nepal. Worked closely with grassroots justice organizations in Nepal to strengthen their ability to develop effective case management systems to obtain data on justice needs and legal identity.
  • For Namati: Contributed research on the history of the community paralegal movement in Kenya; provided research and editing support for an evidence review of the impact of legal empowerment programs; prepared literature review on the intersection of law and organizing; and contributed research on legal identity, social accountability, and health policy issues.
